The $270 million casino and hotel is Texans’ ultimate gateway to weekend revelry with 47,000-square-feet of gaming space, 1,000 slot machines, prime rib, and PBR Cowboy Bar.

The three-hour drive from Dallas melts the city skyline into the rear view mirror and melts into the pine-lined highway and billboards announcing a jackpot ahead. As you cross Interstate 20, the sky glows behind the electric red Live! Casino & Hotel logo welcoming you to Bossier City. It feels like a portal where work ends and the revelry is 24/7.

Celebrating one year, Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana is a $270 million adult playground. The casino and hotel hybrid is the newest tri-state-serving destination where Texans go to play hard and the ultimate weekend escape.

For Texans craving the thrill of whirring slot machines without boarding a plane, the appeal is undeniable. Just a skip and hop East for a weekend of slots, steaks, and two-stepping.

Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana welcomes guests as they cross the Red River on Interstate 20 with its signature Live! logo, setting the tone for revelry. Be prepared to put the gear in park and leave the car there for days.  It’s the first land-side casino in the Bossier City and Shreveport area, and it checks all the boxes starting rooms primed for restoration.

The lobby ushers guests in a large-scale heart sculpture, above it towers 12 floors filled with 549 rooms. Rooms come in deluxe double queen or deluxe king accommodations. The basics are all covered including blackout curtains for quality rest and relaxation, a 55-inch television, chaises, and desks. Amenities include a 24-7 fitness center and The Pool at Live!, a guest-only resort pool with a bar, cabanas, and 21-plus age policy after 6 p.m.

By the time you drop off your bags, the night is young. Slip into something sparkly and let the buzz of cards shuffling and cocktails pouring lure you to the first floor.

The soul of the property is the 21-and-up, 47,000-square-foot, well-kept casino. The casino draws in just as many locals as it does travelers, with more than 1,000 slot machines and electronic table games. It’s a kaleidoscope of flashing lights and temptation that ups the ante with more than 40 table games. High rollers can put down the big bucks in the High Limit Tables Room.

The adrenaline is palatable. Gamblers sit hypnotized at slot machines. At the card tables, tension can be cut with a knife. The contagious energy moves in waves from euphoria to sheer determination.

For the sports junkie, go all in with DraftKings Sportsbook. Live wagers and bets can be placed at self-service kiosks all while having a clear view of the game on a ginormous media wall courtesy of one of the casino’s dining destinations.

Gastronomy Galore

Non-gamblers, like myself, need not fret. Live! features a culinary conquest that will keep your mouth busy and your stomach full.

Start the day at Ridotto Grand Café. Located next to the lobby, the restaurant nods to II Ridotto, the first European gambling destination. It doubles as an all-day coffee bar, with a daily breakfast buffet, and brunch on the weekends. Friday and Saturday dinner has an Italy-meets-the-South flair with blackened shrimp alfredo, and jalapeño smoked gouda shrimp and grits. If anything, stroll by to peek at the exquisite design that feels like a slice of Venice. It’s also the only non-adults-only restaurant on site.

Once you’ve had your fill of people watching, head to Sports & Social. The casual sports bar flaunts an 80-foot media wall that drives the energy on game days with staple sports binging bites like the Loaded Nacho Fries and Red Bull-infused, 50-ounce sharable cocktails.

The global gastronomy trot continues at Luk Fu. The Thursday through Sunday dinner spot fuses Japanese, Thai, Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese cuisines. It glows with cheeky neon signs accompanied by lychee martinis and half-pound lobsters made Yee Mein or Hong Kong style.

Lobster Imperial and seabass

The resort’s crown jewel is The Prime Rib, a moody steakhouse that prides itself on its namesake. The fine dining restaurant sets itself apart from the laid back resort sultry live music, rare wines, classic cocktails, prime beef cuts, and fresh catches. It’s the perfect date night complete with white glove service and a choice of razor-sharp knives that glide into cuts like butter.  Lighting is soft and glasses clink, making diners feel a world away from the gaming floor. Go all out with the luxurious Lobster Imperial, an entree fit for a king with a massive lobster tail stuffed with a lumps of crab meat and baked to perfection.

Keep the good times going with The Center Bar. It’s the heartbeat of the casino offering cocktails and drinks 24 hours a day beneath an eye-catching, color-changing, 40,000 pound chandelier. The bar’s viewpoint doesn’t have a blindspot and is the perfect meeting spot to catch up with your crew before heading to two step.

Place cowboy boots at the top of the packing list. Live! is home to one of 16 PBR Cowboy Bars in the U.S. Inspired by the grit of professional bull riding, the PBR Cowboy Bar embodies the spirit with the city’s star country attraction. Crowds pack the house starting as early at 9 p.m., lining up to try their hand at the mechanical bull. The energy is electric with chaps-clad servers breaking into line dances, massive bars pouring whiskey, and themed nights. Freedom Fridays honor military personnel with drink specials, and specialty events include Latin Nights, neon country raves, and even a ticketed western Magic Mike-riff with Magic Male XXL.

By 10 p.m., the dance floor is shoulder to shoulder with whiskey, sweat, and bass. The mechanical bull jerks the crowd to life as spectators watch the riders grip with all their might. It’s unapologetically loud and the best way to tip your hat to the weekend.

Laissez les bons temps rouler

If you time your trip right, the twin cities deliver the ultimate Mardi Gras experience. The Krewe of Centaur was founded in 1991 and organizes one of the best parades in the city. The annual spectacle is a 72-hour sprint to the parade held two Saturdays before Mardi Gras. The parade itself has grown to become one of the largest in the Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas region.

The party kicks off with a Thursday night ball. The next night anticipation builds at the “Centaur is a Work of Art” Float Loading Party. Float organizers spend months conceptualizing and building each float from scratch. This behind-the-scenes event is located just three miles from the hotel and brings the public and tourists up close and personal with the handcrafted masterpieces.

On Saturday, the floats kick into drive at 3 p.m. traveling along the Red River from Texas Street to East Kings Highway. Arrive early for dibs on the best beads and photo ops.The event is family-friendly with a nonalcoholic family zone and a reserved parking area. Once the floats are in motion, visitors line up with hands in the air grasping at a shower of purple, green, and gold beads. The 2027 Krewe of Centaur parade is slated for Jan. 30, 2027.

Long after the parade floats roll away, the casino lights still flash. The weekend doesn’t wind down, and for Texans looking to swap routine for revelry, the Red River is closer than you think.
