Solmar Hotels & Resorts offers beachfront escapes and luxury experiences for every traveler.
Solmar Hotels & Resorts offers six luxurious coastal properties, all located along the shores of Cabo San Lucas, the heart of Mexico’s Los Cabos region in Baja California. The Solmar Hotels & Resorts properties include:
*Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes Resort Golf & Spa
*Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa
My experience included two-night stays at Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes Resort Golf & Spa and the Grand Solmar Land’s End. While united under the Solmar brand, each resort strikes a balance between a shared standard of luxury and a distinct character and atmosphere. While Solmar isn’t a traditional all‑inclusive, meal plans are available for guests who want the convenience of bundled dining across on-site restaurants and bars.
Best Time to Visit

Cabo enjoys sunshine year-round, but conditions are ideal:
- December to May: mild temperatures, clear skies, minimal rainfall
- Whale‑watching season: January to March, when humpback and gray whales migrate nearby
- Hurricane season: June through November
How to Get There
From Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, my flight to Cabo San Lucas included one stop at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. Upon arrival at Los Cabos International Airport, a pre-arranged shuttle from the resort was waiting to take me directly to the property. The drive from the airport to Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes Resort Golf & Spa took just under an hour.
A Family-Owned Resort
When Spanish immigrant Don Luis Bulnes arrived in Cabo San Lucas in 1954, the town had just 400 residents and no hotels. Seeing potential in the quiet fishing village, he opened Hotel Solmar in 1974—now known as Solmar Resort—laying the foundation for what would become one of Cabo’s most beloved hospitality groups.
Today, his daughter Charo Bulnes carries on that legacy as President of the Solmar Group, leading with a deep commitment to guest satisfaction and the well-being of the 2,000 employees she proudly refers to as the Solmar Family.
A Heart for Sustainability
That same sense of responsibility to honor guests and employees is extended to the environment. Solmar Hotels & Resorts thoughtfully integrates sustainability into every aspect of the guest experience:
- Electronic keycard systems conserve energy by powering lights based on room occupancy
- Nature’s Protection program at Rancho San Lucas preserves 106 acres of untouched terrain
- Water-wise landscaping uses drought-resistant, endemic plants
- Eco-conscious golf course design, with the Greg Norman Signature course planted entirely with sustainable Sea Dwarf Paspalum grass
Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes Resort Golf & Spa

As soon as I arrived at Grand Solmar at Pacific Dunes Resort Golf & Spa, I felt like I had stumbled into a secret escape. Tucked about 25 minutes away from the bustle of downtown Cabo San Lucas, the desert landscape provided a perfect backdrop upon entering the resort. The clear skies, crashing waves and wide-open spaces immediately signaled to me that it was going to be a serene experience. The resort’s isolation is one of its best qualities.
A Room with a Refreshing Welcome

I stayed in the Grand Studio, which offered plenty of space and a private terrace overlooking the ocean. As I stepped inside, the first thing I noticed was a subtle yet refreshing citrus scent. I later learned that Solmar uses its own branded essential oils, with citrus being the signature fragrance used to prepare each room.
The Spanish mission-style design was elegant, and the private patio provided a perfect view of the resort and beach. After a day of adventure, the soaking tub felt like a well-earned luxury. The bed was incredibly comfortable, offering uninterrupted slumber that left me feeling rested and recharged.
Outdoor Fun

Due to the strong waves, swimming is not advisable near the shores of Pacific Dunes. Guests quickly forget this when they see the amazing water activities at the resort, featuring four pools and six jacuzzis. One pool is reserved exclusively for adults seeking a quieter escape. For families, there’s a children’s water park complete with a splash zone and waterslide, perfect for keeping younger guests entertained.
A standout highlight is the saltwater lagoon, an expansive, serene body of water bordered by private cabanas. More than just a pool, the lagoon offers a resort-park experience where guests can paddleboard, kayak, or enjoy a leisurely swim.
Many pools also feature bar service with loungers, making it easy to unwind with a drink in hand. In the evenings, a gentleman played familiar tunes on his saxophone as guests floated in the water, relaxed on their balconies, or enjoyed peaceful evening strolls around the grounds.
Spa by the Ocean

One of the most tranquil highlights of my stay was the Spa by the Ocean, where five treatment rooms are housed in cabanas near the shore. The menu features facials, massages and body treatments, each designed to soothe and rejuvenate. Guests begin by slipping into plush robes in the locker room, then lounging in a serene relaxation area before their treatment.
There’s truly no better way to start the day than with a massage accompanied by the natural soundtrack of crashing waves. My massage was restorative and deeply calming. Afterward, I soaked in the outdoor hot tub, sipping a mimosa as staff periodically came by with water and small treats. It was an indulgent escape into pure bliss.
The Food at Pacific Dunes

My first dinner at the resort was at Anica, where I dined al fresco on the terrace as the sun melted into the horizon. It was the ideal setting for a coastal meal. The four-course menu featured a crisp arugula salad with blue cheese, a luxuriously creamy corn soup, tender braised ribs, and a classic banana foster for dessert. The corn soup was the star of the night.
The following day, we stopped at The Sports Bar for lunch. I walked in expecting typical pub fare, but I was pleasantly surprised. The menu was creative and served elevated bar food staples. Our table shared BBQ cauliflower bites, shrimp ceviche, corn ribs, a portobello mushroom burger and roasted chicken with assorted sauces. The ceviche was so fresh and flavorful, and cauliflower bites made me forget I was eating vegetables.
In the morning, I grabbed breakfast at the Deli Café, treating myself to a white mocha and a buttery croissant that was flaky and warm. Other menu options, such as the chicken burrito and ham-and-cheese crepe, made it clear that this café offers more than just grab-and-go basics.
Solmar Golf Links: A Greg Norman Signature Course

Opened in 2020, Solmar Golf Links has become a top destination for golf lovers visiting Cabo San Lucas. Designed by golf legend Greg Norman, the 18-hole oceanfront course is set against a backdrop of sweeping Pacific views and desert landscapes. Located next to Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes, it incorporates native dunes, sandy ridges and Sea Dwarf Paspalum grass, making for both a scenic and playable experience. The clubhouse includes a full-service golf shop and a restaurant, perfect for winding down after a round.

I had the chance to take a golf lesson with José Marcellán, the resort’s PGA-certified Head Golf Professional. Originally from Spain, José previously ran a golf academy in Mallorca and now brings his expertise to Cabo. As a first-time golfer, I found his calm and patient teaching style incredibly helpful, and even managed a few impressive drives under his guidance. I spotted deer and roadrunners as I navigated the course, reinforcing the natural beauty of the area.
Grand Solmar Land’s End

Perched at the southernmost tip of the Baja California Peninsula, Grand Solmar Land’s End lives up to its name, situated where the land meets the Sea. Nestled in Cabo San Lucas, between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez, the resort offers a secluded oceanfront escape just minutes from downtown.
Since opening in 2011, it has earned a reputation as one of Los Cabos’ most luxurious and well-located properties. Designed in a refined hacienda style by the renowned architecture firm HKS, the resort seamlessly blends traditional Mexican colonial charm with modern elegance.
Just beyond the shores of the resort lies The Arch, Cabo San Lucas’ iconic natural rock formation where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez.
Remarkable Design and Rooms

From the moment I arrived at Grand Solmar Land’s End, I was captivated by the intricate sidewalk patterns, lush landscaping, and welcoming ambiance. The expansive lobby, anchored by a graceful fountain, set the tone for the resort’s refined charm.

My suite offered a spacious layout with a plush king bed, cozy slippers and a robe, a kitchenette featuring a full-size refrigerator, and a designated breakfast nook. However, what truly stood out was the balcony, with its sweeping ocean view and lounge chairs. I ended the night listening to the waves, so comfortably settled that I could have slept there.
Sea Spa at Land’s End

At Sea Spa, guests can enjoy massages, facials, body treatments, including a rejuvenating Vitamin C body scrub, as well as specialty rituals and customizable packages, all accompanied by the sounds of crashing waves.
While I didn’t have the chance to indulge in a treatment here, I was struck by just how close the cabanas are to the shores, making it an ocean-immersed spa.
Where to Eat at Land’s End

At La Roca, the menu complements the setting—fresh salads, craft cocktails, and beautiful sunset views over the ocean. I especially loved the burrata salad and the tender beef fillet
The resort’s Asian Lounge is another highlight. It offers a fun, interactive twist—guests can select their sushi-grade fish directly from a live koi pond for the freshest sashimi imaginable.
And just like at Pacific Dunes, the Deli Café came through for a quick yet satisfying breakfast. I grabbed a vanilla latte and a warm croissant breakfast sandwich that hit the spot before a day of exploring.
Pools and Swim‑Up Bar

Grand Solmar Land’s End boasts seven outdoor pools, including multiple infinity-edge pools that offer breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. Designated adult and children’s pools underscore the destination appeal to travelers from all walks of life.

At the Sunset Pool, I sipped custom cocktails crafted by the resort’s talented mixologist. The creamy foams he created on top of my limoncello cocktail was a delight.
Weddings at Solmar: A Destination to Say “I Do”

Both Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes and Grand Solmar Land’s End are beloved wedding destinations, offering stunning backdrops and tailored services for couples planning their big day. Beauty prep is also stress-free thanks to the onsite salons, which offer bridal hair, makeup, nails, and more.
Let Solmar Take you to the Sea

Departing from Marina Fundadores, The Solmar Sea Share Sunset Experience is a scenic boat tour that cruises the sparkling waters of Cabo San Lucas, offering breathtaking views of iconic landmarks like the Arch of Cabo and the meeting point of the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean.
With space for up to 14 passengers, the boat ride was nothing short of stunning. The waters were bustling with activity with other adventurers. The boat experience was enhanced by great music and a generous open bar. The crew was exceptionally kind and welcoming, embodying laid back beach vibes.
We anchored near the Arch, where I jumped in for a bit of snorkeling and was amazed by the variety of colorful fish. The Sea of Cortez is swimmer-friendly, whereas the Pacific waters on the beaches of Pacific Dunes and Land’s End are not recommended for swimming.
Experience the Sky Bike at Cactus Tours

While in Los Cabos, I visited Cactus Tours, home to the Sky Bike—officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s longest aerial bike route, measuring 339.39 meters. This unique experience allows up to four people to ride simultaneously and is built for all ages and fitness levels.
I opted out due to a fear of heights, but several members of my group gave it a shot and loved it. They described it as exhilarating and fun, and surprisingly leg-intensive!
While my group soared through the sky, I chose a camel ride along the beach. It was a grounding contrast to the high-adrenaline excitement. That’s what makes Cactus Tours so great: there is an adventure for everyone.
Italian Food in Cabo

One night, I had dinner at Romeo & Julieta, one of downtown Cabo’s most beloved Italian restaurants. Founded in 1986 by Luis Bulnes—who also established the Solmar Resort—the restaurant opened at a time when Cabo had just a handful of dining options.
Today, it remains a local favorite thanks to its romantic courtyard setting, live music, and classic Italian fare. The lovely ambiance, warm service and flavorful dishes made for a delightful evening and a great way to experience a different side of Cabo.
