National Wellness Month is the perfect reminder that lasting health isn’t built through quick fixes or the latest wellness trend. Instead, it often comes down to the simple choices we make every day.

Emma Magnolia, founder of Emma Wellness, is a holistic health educator and lifestyle practitioner, as well as the daughter of renowned Australian health speaker Barbara O’Neill. After more than 30 years of helping individuals and families embrace natural, preventative approaches to health, she believes true wellness begins with understanding how the body works and giving it the tools it needs to thrive. From herbal remedies and food as medicine to practical lifestyle habits rooted in everyday life, Emma has dedicated her career to making holistic health approachable and sustainable.

In this interview with Texas Lifestyle Magazine, she shares her perspective on building healthier habits, balancing natural wellness and modern medicine, and the small, meaningful changes that can make a lasting difference.

You’ve spent more than three decades working in natural wellness. What first inspired your passion for holistic health?

My passion for natural health really began with my mother, Barbara O’Neill. Growing up, I watched her use simple, natural remedies to care for our family in our daily lives and lovingly care for us when we were sick, with hydrotherapy, herbal teas, juices, and various other modalities. That left a lasting impression on me, sparking a curiosity that eventually grew into a lifelong journey of learning about holistic health and sharing those principles with others.

How did your mother, the renowned health and wellness speaker Barbara O’Neill, influence your dedication to helping others understand the benefits of holistic health practices?

Having a mother who dedicated her life to teaching people about simple, healthy living meant I grew up surrounded by a lifestyle focused on helping others. I was often around conversations about well-being, prevention, and taking responsibility for our health. I saw the impact her work had on people’s lives and how simple principles could bring real change and hope to those who were struggling. Experiencing that day in and day out inspired me to also help others understand that many powerful tools for health are simple, natural, and accessible, and to encourage people to take an active role in caring for their own health.

As a holistic educator, how do you balance traditional wisdom with modern health knowledge?

I see great value in both traditional wisdom and modern health knowledge, and I believe they can complement each other beautifully when approached thoughtfully with some common sense in mind. Traditional practices have stood the test of time — they’re often simple, practical, and deeply connected to how the body naturally functions.

At the same time, modern research can help us better understand why these principles scientifically work and how to apply them more effectively in today’s world.

For me, balance comes from staying grounded in foundational, time-tested principles like nutrition, rest, hydrotherapy, and herbal remedies, while remaining open to learning and understanding new information. It’s about using discernment, keeping things simple, and always asking, “Does this support the body’s natural ability to heal?”.

You often emphasize foundational wellness principles like food as medicine and preventive health. What are three simple habits anyone can start today to improve their health?

I always like to keep things simple, because health doesn’t need to be complicated to be effective.

Firstly, focus on hydration. Drinking enough clean water throughout the day is one of the easiest and most powerful things you can do to support your body. Adding liquid ocean minerals to your water can also be a helpful way to support proper hydration and replenish essential trace elements. I like to start my day with 1 quart of very warm water on an empty stomach & liquid minerals, drunk over 30 minutes as I read my Bible & put the first wash in the washing machine for the day!

Secondly, choose whole, nourishing foods as much as possible. Even something as simple as preparing lentils or black-eyed peas in an Instant Pot can give you an easy, high-protein breakfast option. Even better, put it on a delayed start before you go to bed, and when you’re awake in the morning, it will be soaked, brought up to pressure, cooked, decompressed, and ready for you to rinse. Then just add seasonings, and breakfast is ready!!!

Adding homegrown microgreens is another wonderful step. They’re incredibly easy to grow, even on something as handy as the kitchen table or as simple as a small TV table or coffee table in front of a sunny window. They’re also packed with nutrients, containing 5-40 times the nutritional density of mature adult plants, especially when you supplement with Sea-90.

And thirdly, prioritize rest. Making sure you’re getting enough quality sleep and allowing your body time to recover is often overlooked, but it’s essential for overall health and healing. Creating a simple evening routine, such as reducing screen time, winding down with a calming activity, and going to bed at a consistent time, can make a big difference in sleep quality. If you really want to ramp it up, have your light evening meal 3-4 hours before you go to bed to amplify melatonin production.

As a wife, mother of seven, and homesteader, how does your own lifestyle influence the way you teach others about health?

My lifestyle shapes everything about how I teach health because I don’t approach it as theory — I endeavor to live it every day. As a wife and mother of seven, grandmother to two, I’ve learned that health has to be practical, attainable, sustainable, and rooted in real life, not perfection. Feeding a large family on a budget, caring for and cleaning a home with natural products, and managing daily responsibilities means I focus on simple, natural habits that actually work, like whole foods, regular routines, and trusting the body’s ability to heal when properly supported.

Homesteading has also deepened my belief in going back to basics. Growing food, using natural remedies, and being closely connected to the rhythms of life reinforces the idea that health isn’t complicated; it’s about aligning with how our bodies were designed to function. I teach others from that place of experience, showing them that you don’t need extreme measures or expensive solutions. Instead, small, consistent choices — what you eat, how you rest, how you manage stress — can transform your health in a meaningful and lasting way.

Ultimately, my goal is to empower others, especially families, to take responsibility for their health in a way that feels doable and grounded in everyday life.

How have Biblical teachings influenced your health and wellness beliefs and practices? Do you have a favorite verse when it comes to health and wellness?

The Biblical principle that has influenced me most is the idea that God calls us to be both a light to the world and a temple. A temple is a meeting place with God, but it’s also something that is cared for, kept clean, and kept beautiful. That has become one of my guiding principles in life. I believe our bodies are a gift from God, and caring for them well allows us to better serve Him and then, in turn, serve those around us.

I’ve also been inspired by the story of Daniel in Babylon. While others were eating the king’s rich food, Daniel and his friends chose a simple diet of plant foods and water. After a period of time, they appeared healthier and stronger than those who ate from the king’s table. That story has always reinforced for me the value of simplicity in our diet and lifestyle. It reminds me that God’s principles often lead us back to the simple things that nourish and sustain us best.

One of my favorite verses is 3 John 1:2: “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” This verse beautifully reflects the Biblical view that our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being are connected. It reminds me that God cares about every aspect of our lives and that caring for our health is part of honoring the life He has given us.

Products and Education

What began as a way to share trusted health resources has grown into a global platform where Emma Magnolia teaches the foundations of natural wellness. Photo Terra Sura Photography

Tell us about your website. What inspired you to create the platform and expand your wellness education online?

My passion has always been helping people understand the body’s incredible God-given ability to heal when given the right conditions. For many years, I shared these principles through working at health retreats, seminars, face-to-face education, and with massage clients. As interest grew from people around the world, it became clear that an online platform was the best way to make this information accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live.

Our website allows us to share practical wellness products, education, healthy recipes, articles, and resources that empower people to take greater responsibility for their health. My goal has always been to make health information simple, understandable, and achievable, helping people return to the foundational principles of what my Mum calls the 9 Laws of Health. SUSTAIN ME: sunshine, use of water, sleep, trust in divine power, abstain from harmful things, inhale fresh air, nutrition, moderation and exercise.

The website really grew out of a practical need because, for more than 25 years, I had been providing products and resources that Mum’s customers were looking for while she was travelling and teaching throughout America. In those days, all orders were taken by phone, which naturally limited how many people we could serve.

As demand grew for my mother Barbara’s book, Self Heal By Design, the company handling fulfillment was unable to continue shipping it. Seeing how eager people were to access the information, I stepped in and launched the first website to help make the book and other resources more readily available.

Through that experience, it became clear that people weren’t just looking for products; they were hungry for health education and practical tools they could use to improve their well-being. At the same time, we noticed an increasing number of scams targeting people looking for Barbara’s information. That led me to begin using social media to reach as many people as possible, share trustworthy information, and help people identify authentic resources.

You sell health products on your website. What are a few of your most popular products?

Over the years, many of our products have been developed in response to the needs and questions we’ve heard from our community of people following Mum’s health advice. Some of our most popular products include our herbal tea blends, particularly our Digest Tea and Colon Tea, as well as our Gut Repair Powder, which has become a favorite among those looking to support digestive health.

We also have a range of herbal mixes based on traditional wellness principles that many customers incorporate into their daily routines. Our Comfrey Salve continues to be one of our longest-standing and most loved products, and in recent years, we’ve seen growing interest in our castor oil and natural skincare range as people look for simpler, more natural approaches to personal care.

While we’re grateful for the popularity of these products, our primary focus has always been education. We see our products as practical tools that complement the health principles we teach and help people make positive lifestyle changes in their everyday lives.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with the readers of Texas Lifestyle Magazine?

I would encourage readers to remember that good health is often found in the simple things. We live in a world that is constantly looking for the latest breakthrough, but many of the most powerful health principles have been known for generations: wholesome food, regular movement, fresh air, sunshine, quality sleep, meaningful relationships, and a strong spiritual foundation.

Small, consistent changes can have a remarkable impact over time. My hope is that people feel empowered rather than overwhelmed and realize that every positive step they take is an investment in their future health and well-being.
